I Should Be in Bed

It’s past midnight, but I’m not sleepy. But I have spent a lot of time on Amazon checking titles of novelisations/tie-ins/books-based-on-TV for two TV shows which I’ve never even seen, though I want to: Dark Angel and Alias. Whether I’ll get my hands on the DVDs or books remains unknown.

Anyway, this is a note really to alert you that my GoogleReader isn’t working. It’ll show up the header, but none of the sidebar, and definitely no entries. So if you blog with BlogSpot, WordPress or something else (not LiveJournal or MySpace), I may not get to read your posts until if/when the problem is fixed. And I don’t know how to fix it.

Enough blathering – bedtime now.

P.S. The Hives are coming to Oz in late Dec/early Jan – here’s hoping they do a sideshow in Melbourne, w00t!

P.P.S. But I’ve been productive and have finished drafting my futuristic synopsis. Now awaiting crits before commencing the actual writing. Though I need to research some more medical/scientific stuff.

Trashy Tez

I feel trashy: I thought about watching the Brownlow Red Carpet Arrivals. Thought. Though I did see the last five minutes. And I watched the whole count. And I don’t have a particular interest in football, but I was pleased with the winner – seems like such a good bloke on Before the Game. ‘Twas on last week’s episode. Quoth Dave Hughes: “I’m a heterosexual man, but you’re cute.” For reasons unknown, I found that heartwarming… aw πŸ˜‰

Okay, so recently Evil Editor offered to critique synopses: 400 words maximum. I checked my Shift synopsis: circa 1000. Eek. So I got it down, but at just under 500, it’s still too long for EE to critique. So if any of you feel like critiquing it, email me.

Be warned: I’ll probably ask for Bloodroot query and synopsis critiquing soon. But not yet.

Oh, and I sorted out my Blogspot layout; added lots of links. If your link is listed and you object, please contact me, and I’ll delete it.

The day’s pimping: This and this. Yes, I am desperate to win free things.

And for some trash to end the day’s post: I rather enjoy Calvin Harris’s “The Girls” and MIKA’s “Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)”… and I’ve read that both are “novelty songs”. But that tag should only go to stuff like Crazy Frog – but these two aforementioned songs are fun! Trashy, but fun. Sometimes I go about my day, and in my head a lyric pops: Now a whole lotta woman needs a whole lot more! It’s just so jovial.

Me Pimp, You Ho

I prefer Calvin Harris’s “Love for You” (the B-side on the single) to “Acceptable in the ’80s”. It’s just gorgeous πŸ™‚

I’m concerned for my cat’s intellect: I caught him eating his own vomit the other night. Really. Because the vomit was in the (empty) bath, and he was in the bath eating it up. And his food dish was in its usual spot next to the shower. Oh dear…

I’ve realised a problem with my writing: my novels are short (circa 70,000), but my synopses are long (at least 900 words). Me thinks synopses should be shorter, but does anyone know the roundabout word count I should aim for?

Also, I need help with Blogspot HTML, because I want my sidebars to have wordcount meters, and lists of websites and blogs, and books I’ve read, and music I’ve listened to. How do I all this? I tried copying and pasting, but the headings don’t show up. Check out my Blogspot, and see if you can help, please. Much appreciated.

Now, for author pimpage of those on my LJ Mutual Friends List. Let’s meet them:

Jeaniene Frost: Writes urban fantasy. She gave away Halfway to the Grave cover flats, and I have one πŸ™‚ Buy Halfway to the Grave on Nov 1 2007.
Mark Henry: Writes urban fantasy. With zombies. I mean, zombies are in the novel; they didn’t assist with writing – and if they did, MH didn’t give credit where credit was due πŸ˜‰ Buy Happy Hour of the Damned in March 2008. (Sorry, I don’t have the exact date because it’s not listed on Amazon yet.)
December Quinn/Stacia Kane: DQ writes erotica; SK writes urban fantasy. Buy Personal Demons on April 1, 2008.

Let it be known that Mark and Stacia are also part of an elite five-person group blog, League of Reluctant Adults. (Here’s hoping I’ve got the link right.) Basically it’s a group of urban fantasy writers who understand the importance of humour. They think they’re reluctant adults? Dude, I don’t have a job πŸ˜‰ Entries so far have been written by Anton Strout, Stacia and Mark. Don’t be surprised if I pimp the blog regularly – it may be the only chance I have to win free stuff, and you know I love presents πŸ˜‰

And heads up, Mark: Guess who’s playing Sharon’s sister, Karen, on this week’s Kath & Kim? Have a squizz here.

You Should Play the Guitar

You’re very independent – both in spirit and in the way you learn.
You can teach yourself almost anything, even if it makes your fingers bleed.

You’re not really the type to sit patiently through a music lesson – or do things by the book.
It’s more your style to master the fundamentals and see where they take you.

Highly creative and a bit eclectic, you need a wide range of music to play.
You could emerge as a sensitive songwriter… or a manic rock star.

Your dominant personality characteristic: being rebellious

Your secondary personality characteristic: tenacity

Nicked from Nicole, Andy:

Your home is a

Magic Muse’s Castle

Your kitchen is manned by a team of Keebler Drow Elves. Your master bedroom is decorated to look like the treetop village of the Galadhrim. Your study has every fantasy novel ever written, including multiple editions of the Silmarillion and advance copies of Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition.

Your home also includes a roost for griffons. You’ve never actually seen a griffon, but you keep the roost ready anyway. Your guests enjoy your home theater with hi-def plasma screen TV, and the thrones you watch it from. Outside is the moat that protects your home from goblin invaders and extended family.

And, you have a pet — a unicorn named “Shadowhooves”.
