[REVIEW] Silver – Rhiannon Held

Rhiannon Held
Macmillan Tor (US: 5th June 2012)
Buy (US) Buy (UK) Buy (CA) Buy (Worldwide)

Andrew Dare is the enforcer of the Roanoke pack. When he finds a lone, damaged werewolf, the two begin the search for Silver’s attacker.

Rhiannon Held has crafted a quiet, elegant, and refined novel that mostly avoids the annoying “mine’s bigger than yours” alpha-douchebag dramas that plague paranormal fiction. Andrew is quite likable, as is Silver, and romance fans will be pleased with the happy ending. Urban fantasy fans will appreciate the back-to-basics story. But really, the characters need to stop talking trash about Europeans – don’t generalise a whole continent based on one bad egg.

New Deals (Armstrong, Baggott, Brody, Frost, Held, Meyer, Tayler & Rossi)

Kelley Armstrong‘s untitled adult trilogy, plus 3 anthologies set in the Otherworld universe, to Random House Canada, for publication in 2013.

Julianna Baggott‘s PURE trilogy to Grand Central Publishing. (Film rights sold to Fox 2000.) A YA dystopian about a society of haves, who escaped an apocalypse in a futuristic dome-covered city, & have-nots, who survived the nearly-destroyed outside world.

Jessica Brody‘s YA trilogy to Farrar, Straus & Giroux (World English). Set a century in the future, a 16-year-old plane crash survivor is trying to reclaim her identity with only 1 titbit of information: she was supposedly the subject of a science experiment. A love story set against a sci-fi backdrop of time travel & gene manipulation. Book 1 in the series, UNREMEMBERED, is scheduled for 2012. Dramatic rights sold to producer Doug Davison with screenwriter Whit Anderson attached to the project.

Jeaniene Frost‘s penultimate 2 Cat & Bones Night Huntress books, plus the 1st 2 books in a new Night Huntress World series to Avon (World).

Rhiannon Held’s SILVER in a 3-book deal to Tor (World English). The local pack enforcer finds a battered & crazed werewolf in his territory & must unite the isolated & insular North American packs & take a hard look at his own dark past to piece together what happened & keep it from happening again.

Marissa Meyer’s 4-book YA futuristic, fairy-tale inspired series, starting with CINDER, to Feiwel & Friends. Cinder, part-girl & part-machine, must piece together her mysterious past before she can fulfil her destiny & save the kingdom – & the rest of planet Earth – from an otherworldly enemy.

Kassy Tayler’s (aka Cindy Holby) steampunk/dystopian YA series, beginning with ASHES, to St. Martin’s Griffin in a 3-book deal. A girl works as a coal miner to support a domed city & unwittingly becomes the catalyst in a rebellion that ends the dome & the levels of hierarchy within her society.

Veronica Rossi‘s dystopian YA romance trilogy, starting with UNDER THE NEVER SKY, optioned to Warner Brothers for feature adaptation. Set in the future & billed as a post-apocalyptic ROMEO & JULIET.
