If The Rapture and The Uninvited are anything to go by, Liz Jensen specialises in creepy children and global chaos. Supernatural fiction for the literary set, The Uninvited takes a while to step up but is fascinating when it does. Hesketh Lock may be difficult to connect with, yet he’s the perfect character to tell this kind of story. The Uninvited is like a strange mix of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Little Star, Sara Wilson Etienne’s Harbinger, and Liz Jensen’s own The Rapture. This novel requires patience, but stick with it and you’ll be richly rewarded.
