[COVER ART] Same Cover Image; & Assorted Kelley Armstrong Canadian Reprints

Have just discovered that two upcoming novels by different authors have the same cover image. One is a YA novel published by Egmont USA (Bree Despain’s The Dark Divine), the other a reprinted adult novel published be Random House Vintage Canada (Kelley Armstrong’s No Humans Involved). Authors often have no say in their cover art, so let’s not blame Bree Despain and Kelley Armstrong.

Meanwhile, I found some more KA Canadian reprint covers…

  1. I think it’s a shame this keeps happening 😦

  2. Those are such odd covers for the Kelly Armstrong books. I don’t think I like them. Almost as if they are trying to be Laurell K Hamilton-esque (of course they are changing HER covers again too!).

Why does every urban fantasy book have to have a Twilight-inspired cover? It’s really starting to irritate me.

  3. I’m with Cat – I immediately flashed to Twilight when I saw all those covers. And poor Kelley and Bree. Takes a lot of the cover-love away from them. (Why do they need new covers anyway – it just confuses readers who think it’s a new book. Which is probably what they’re going for in the first place. Grr)

  4. One of Meg Cabot’s Mediator books in Brazil has the same cover image too. But in pink. Personally, I like purple the best 🙂

Because the books are designed in different countries, the author (and usually the designer–as with my book) has no idea that the cover image has been used elsewhere. And thank goodness, other than savvy bloggers like yourself, 99% of the general population will never know that the other books exist. So hopefully, it won’t kill the cover love too much. *crossing fingers*

  5. I love the Canadian covers. When I saw the new cover for No Humans Involved, I thought of Bree’s book too (I was going to make a post on it too). It’s surprising how often this kind of thing happens though.

  6. I didn’t think of twilight when I saw them. Darn-it, I liked the covers until I read your comments about Twilight, and now I see it. Crap. Terry Pratchett books are being released with new covers also,; black background with a single item for contrast. I don’t want to think of Twilight when I look at Terry Pratchett books.
Thanks a lot, ladies! :), (darn it twilight!)

  7. I’m not sure I like the feel of these new covers. While they are beautiful , I don’t see the need for the re-make or re-modeling. I agree with Leah, I would have probably thought these were all new books upon first glance. Luckily I recognize the titles.

  8. I have never read the books before and the new covers pulled me in. I loved Stolen, Bitten, and Dime Store Magic, but Industrial Magic doesn’t come out in the new cover until late January. Grr.. Should I wait to read them when they come out? Or should I just buy the older covers and have an non-matching set? Maybe I should just get them from the library.. I really like the new covers.. If I had known I would have to wait for the rest of them to come out, I would have just bought the old covers.. Stupid covers..
