The other day Joey W. Hill guest-blogged at Cheyenne McCray’s MySpace, and it turns out she has a genuine passion for Australia, our people…and apparently our accent. Strange, but true and heartwarming. Guest-blog

The Sweet Scent of Blood (Spellcrackers.com, Book 1)
Hachette (UK: 9th April 2009; AU: January 2009)
Genny Taylor is both sidhe and vampire, and cracks spells for a living in England. But she can only crack spells or absorb them, and can’t actually cast any herself, a flaw in her magic. Though maybe all those bacon sandwiches are to blame…
Investigating the case of a girl supposedly murdered by her vampire boyfriend, Genny’s bloody side soon reveals itself. Not that this is much of a problem for her suitors, satyr Finn and vamp Malik.
London is a welcome change from the mostly American settings populating urban fantasy, 3V is an interesting concept, and Genny’s cat-like eyes are unique. But my overall feeling is meh. Admittedly, I read this whilst in a shoddy mood, but it had to be read sometime. If you can’t get it from the library, wait for a mass market release, when it will hopefully be more affordable. (I intend to continue the series this way.)
Suzanne McLeod’s Spellcrackers.com series has just sold US (and probably Canadian) rights! You can look forward to them being published in North America by Penguin’s Ace imprint. The series is published in the UK with Orion, and in Australia with Hachette. The Sweet Scent of Blood was released in November, according to Hachette’s website, but I haven’t seen it instore yet.
Having your books published in three different continents doesn’t happen to everyone, so Suzanne is indeed a worthy author

From J. A. Konrath: “Reviewers are people. Meet them. Be nice to them. Chances are they’ll remember you, and you’ll have a better shot at being reviewed than the thousands of authors they don’t know.” He’s right – the more you pay attention to me, the more likely I’ll pay attention to you. Fickle, I know, but that’s how I operate
If you shorten Madison Square Garden’s name, it becomes MSG. This made me chuckle.
And thanks to everyone who visited my WordPress on Thursday 22nd May 2008 (aka yesterday). My highest amount of page views in a day set a new record: 169. For that I thank my review of Laurell K. Hamilton‘s Blood Noir, Jenna Maclaine‘s guest blog, and my review of Stephenie Meyer‘s The Host which consistently gets a lot of page visits every day.
