Clothes Shopping, eBay, The Hollowmen & Thursday Thirteen

July 10, 2008 · 10 Comments

I hate clothes shopping. Which probably makes me an embarrassment to the rest of my gender…no, I’m an embarrassment to my gender because I also hate shoe shopping. Sorry, forgot about that.

Reasons
-Not much I like
-Things that look okay on the racks may not look good on me
-The really good things are expensive
-Things I like may not come in my size
-If I’m looking for something in particular, I won’t find it

That’s only four reasons, but believe me – they make all the difference. But I ended up buying some jeans, and two tops. $170 all up. Still didn’t find a jumper that’s not itchy and looks all right on me. Also didn’t end up buying a jacket. And my everyday shoes have a hole, so I’ll probably have to replace them at some stage. When money abounds. If money abounds.

Oh, eBay Australia is having no insertion fees from July 12-21, if your opening bid is 99c. I list all mine at 95c, so this is good news.

About halfway through The Hollowmen, I started reading in front of the TV. Usually Working Dog’s programmes suit me, but this doesn’t. Might be too intelligent for me. But at the time I thought it didn’t entertain me, and it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. Yes, I know awareness campaigns are a bunch of faff. I know how political parties try to look like something’s happening when in reality feck-all is. Thus the show had nothing new to add to my brain.

Wow! Your TBR pile is even longer than mine!

    Great 13!

I can maybe understand not liking to shop for clothes, but shoes! I will never understand.

I liked Exit Strategy on that list the most. Sort of slow in bits but as a whole well written. And then Driven (had a hard time putting it down, but not sure you’ll be into the sex bits), and then… I also read a couple of others (Halfway to the Grave, Bloodring, Working for the Devil, Awaken Me Darkly, Warrior and Witch, Twilight, Greywalker) which I’d like to see your opinion on. I liked Twilight other people I often agree with did not. Maybe the hype bring expectations into it.

Ooh, ooh! Driven! I really liked that book, it was good. Can’t wait to read Wired. (But book budget is currently prohibiting it.)

Hey – would you prefer I visit & comment here, or on LiveJournal?

    Carol – I’m down to 62 now, woot! However, I just bought a book off eBay… ;-)

Kelly – I have large and narrow feet. I think I’m 8.5 (Australian sizing), and so I have a very limited range of shoes to come from – because sizes 8 and 9 have a much bigger selection. And I can’t walk properly in high heels. And I think one foot is longer or narrower than the other…

In short: shoe shopping = made of suck.

Jan – Ah, Twilight. I loved The Host, so I’m afraid Twilight won’t be as good. Because I’ve heard it’s melodramatic and Bella is a Mary Sue. And that puts me off…

Oh yeah, and it’s got a lot of pages – that’s why it’s so low down in my TBR pile ;-)

Nikki – Me can has love for SHOMI :-) Though I’ve only read two of them so far…

And re: commenting: If it’s personal or non-book related – it’s LJ. If it’s book-related, it’s WordPress. But really whatever’s more convenient for you ;-)

    Have a lovely day! :-)

*sniffs* I’ve dropped from No. 10 to No. 49. I’m telling Dante! ;)

All kidding aside, you’ve got a helluva list full of great writers, Tez. In truth, I’m honored to be on it.

I totally agree on your reasons why you hate clothes shopping, ME TOO!! plus, yeah if you need something in particular, you walk until your feet are burning in pain, and you can never find it… i’m wearing all my clothes into rags, and plan on ordering off the net in the future, tho i do love a trip to value village lol

Dear Ade, I’m constantly changing my order ;-)

But I finished #1 yesterday, so you’re now #48. Woot, moving on up!

#2 and #3 are up high because they’re ARCs that’ll be published in August.

As for the rest of the list – it goes from least pages to most pages. Meaning that if you’d written a shorter book, you’d be higher up the list. So this is essentially your fault ;-)

So rest assured that you’re not forgotten, and have a lovely day! :-)

Flip-flops go with everything. There, that deserves my books moving up your list.

  • Tez Miller // July 17, 2008 at 1:18 PM | Reply

Call them “thongs” (not “flip-flops”) from now on, and I’ll consider it ;-)

    Have a lovely day! :-)
